1 The 30:70 Evaluation Framework
Every academic programme in IGNOU incorporates continuous internal assessment and final examination. Assignments carry a 30% continuous assessment weightage, while the Term-End Examination (TEE) contributes the remaining 70%. Both must be passed individually to complete any course.
2 Credit System & Study Hours
IGNOU adheres to the UGC Choice Based Credit System (CBCS). One credit is equivalent to 30 hours of learner study time, encompassing reading self-learning materials, viewing audio-visual lectures, attending counseling sessions, and completing assignments. A 4-credit course represents 120 study hours.
3 Minimum & Maximum Durations
Learners benefit from flexible completion timelines. Master's degrees offer a 2-year minimum and 4-year maximum span. Bachelor's degrees allow 3 to 6 years, while Certificate and Diploma courses range from 6 months to 3 years. Re-admission and re-registration allow students to finish credits without repeating passed courses.
